BLURB:
The Council of European Magicians is convinced: Arthur Grieselgrimm is guilty! Who else could be behind the surge of dark magic, if not the solitary outsider, notorious for his scorn of the world? Arthur is flabbergasted. Suddenly, he is being hunted for crimes he didn't commit. Someone out there hates him enough to stage a conspiracy that deceives the magical authorities of all Europe. And what is the meaning of the ink-black mark that has appeared in the palm of his hand? The web of intrigue stretches back to Vienna and Paris of the early 20th century. If only Arthur could navigate the danger without having to confront his darkest secret…
The Creative Process
It all began with writing the novel while I was taking a one-year professional writing course. Arthur Grieselgrimm simply forced his way into my thoughts and feelings, demanding to be written, observed, and understood. He's a strange fellow, that old wizard, who has lived on this planet for 123 years and is still afraid of dreaming—even though his primary task all that time has been to give dreams to other people.
The writing phase lasted two and a half years, plus a creative break of half a year. I could have finished it faster, but I wanted to create the best and most honest work I was capable of.
The revisions after the copyediting added a few more months.
The novel is currently only available in German. I dream of having it translated into English.
Visual Storytelling
Then it was time to draw the characters. I decided on a stylized design, which allowed me to highlight the personalities of the fictional characters through exaggeration. This way, you can tell a great deal about someone without using a single word. You can get a better look at them in my gallery of hand-drawn illustrations.
